McCanns Lane are currently looking into the feasibility of incorporating a neighbourhood battery into the precinct. Neighbourhood batteries are an energy storage model that can hold between 100 kW up to five megawatts (MW). Neighbourhood batteries offer a range of benefits for consumers, the community and the broader electricity system.
A range of different neighbourhood batteries are currently being trialled as part of Victoria’s neighbourhood battery initiative (NBI). The NBI supports trials of a range of neighbourhood battery models across various locations around Victoria to increase our understanding of the functionality of neighbourhood batteries and inform future regulations, while exploring ways to support decarbonization throughout Victoria’s electricity system.
The consideration of a neighbourhood battery within the McCanns Lane precinct is part of the net zero carbon planning of the local area, in line with Geelong’s Clever and Creative future.
