Creating local jobs to support the ever growing Geelong community
The precinct will support local jobs in four ways.
The first is in the sub-regional activity centre as it is developed. A range of jobs will be required in both the retail and commercial sector as the retail centre is developed. Importantly, the initial stages of the activity centre (most likely to be retail in nature) provides local opportunities for younger persons in a range of casual and part time roles. As the precinct grows, a range of professional services and other commercially based jobs will be located locally and most likely in the activity centre. These are likely to include medical and allied health services positions, as well as in accounting, real estate, law and other local service jobs.
The second relates to jobs within the precinct relating to schools, cultural and community centres and early childhood development, where teaching staff, community welfare and other workers, along with childcare and maternal health and welfare works will all be required.
The third relates to the 117 hectares of employment land identified on the western edge of the precinct. Although the industrial sub-precinct is expected to develop over the medium to long term, its development will provide a significant presence in terms of local jobs (expected to be between 2,500 to 3,000 jobs at full development).
The fourth relates to the growing number of local jobs that are supported at home either through home-based businesses or working from home arrangements.
